Sarah Doane

As a summer resident of Hubbards I’ve always been disappointed in the lack of pedestrian friendly roads available.

With so many great establishments within walking distance of each other, more sidewalks and crosswalks are necessary.

When I became Head Coach at the Hubbards Sailing Club the lack of sidewalks and especially the lack of a crosswalk in front of the club became one of the scariest parts of my job. I can’t begin to count the number of close calls I’ve witnessed as tired kids and coaches walk to the parking lot from the club after spending an entire day in the sun. Additionally, I worry everyday about the sailors and coaches who walk or bike to the club because there is no space on the road for them. There’s been multiple instances of kids arriving at the club shaken up due to a near miss crossing the road from the parking lot or biking to sailing.

The sailing club has been one of my favourite places to be and I know that sentiment is shared by many who come here each summer. No one should have to take their lives in their hands to get here. We need to make Hubbards more pedestrian friendly.
